Updates to the Beta Post Editor – Help Center

We've made some updates to the beta post editor on web. You can check them out by toggling the "beta" option in the top right of the screen when you've got the post form open:

What's New?

Redesigned Buttons and Icons

Two sets of the six content block icons. On the left is the old style, on the right is the updated style. There's a squiqqly arrow between the two.

The entire editor got a visual refresh ✨

Native Audio Support

A post form with an empty audio block inserted.

Insert an audio block and upload your file! Once you've uploaded it, you can also edit the album art and track info.

Block Insert Shortcut Key

Type / to open the block menu:

Use ↑ and ↓ (or your mouse) to move through the options.

If the block you're looking for doesn't appear, just start typing the name of it:

This one is a big behind the scenes change. Gutenberg is the open-source block editor for WordPress. Fun fact: The internal codename for this set of updates was "Gutenblr" 😄

Note: Posts made from the beta editor are still stored using the Neue Post Format.

Increased Usability

The beta editor has been missing some features for some time. This update adds some functionality that was not present previously.

Stability & Faster Development

We have more engineers who are familiar with Gutenberg. More engineers = more people to fix issues and build new features!
